Old West Collection Buckles, (2008 Copyright, Will Ghormley), are inspired by historic examples of buckles used on the frontier. Casting is done by American Craftsmen in New Mexico, with a tradition in fine metal work, stretching back for centuries.

The "Wheat Shock & Rosebud" pattern California buckles were inspired by the rectangular California buckle found on page 6 of Richard C. Rattenbury's book,
"Packing Iron, Gunleather of the Frontier West".

Jesse James Reproduction Buckle/Russell Crowe's "3:10 to Yuma"
"Hand of God" Buckle
Some years back David Carrico phoned me up and asked if I could design and carve a reproduction of Jesse James' holster for Brad Pitt and his stunt doubles to use in the movie, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". I was recovering from surgery and my left hand was in a cast, but I was able to design and carve seven holsters and sent them to David to be sewn up. After spending the time working on the holster, I decided to release a pattern for Jesse James' rig. I found a crudely hand-made, nickeled buckle that closely resembled the one on Jesse James cartridge/money belt. But the nickel finish was very fragile. While the holsters I designed and carved for the movie were close reproductions of Jesse's holsters, the production company didn't want an exact replica of Jesse's belt. So, while the holsters in the pattern pack are the same as what was used in the movie, Jesse's original belt (reproduced in the pattern pack), is different from the belts made by Carrico for the movie.
When it was discovered I had designed and carved the holsters used by Pitt in the Jesse James movie, the production people from "3:10 to Yuma" came directly to me for Russell Crowe's and Ben Foster's rigs, along with many other items for the movie totaling 84 pieces. There were many special requirements for Crowe's rig, among them, the rig needed to look well worn. Since the nickel finish on the hand-made buckles was fragile, I used the same buckles for Crowe that matched the original Jesse James rig. I buffed off some of the nickel on the buckle for a well-worn look. The problem was, the nickel finish was so fragile, and the number so limited, it wasn't practical for distribution.
To have a ready supply, with higher quality, I have finally reproduced the Jesse James/Hand of God buckle for distribution. The nickel finish is stronger and the lines of the buckles are more true. I have had them cast in White Bronze, Brass, and Nickel finish. The Jesse James/Hand of God Buckles fit a 1 1/2" billet.
